Movie : Holiday (2006, Korea)

Geneva authorities have being busy disrespecting human rights, expel squatters and closing places of alternative culture. Recently the "Rhino" and soon "Artamis" to build offices to international bankers, petro-dollars and pension funds speculators.

Yesterday i was invited by friends to watch a korean movie "Holiday". They said - Same issues all around the world. The only thing Switzerland and Austria authorities did better with Euro 2008 was to pressure and censor medias.

“Holiday ” is based upon an actual incident whose roots lie in the Korean government’s preparations for the 1988 Olympics, which saw them destroy countless neighborhoods to make way for new developments in order to impress foreign visitors. In most cases, these neighborhoods were squatter settlements whose inhabitants were forcibly cast onto the streets. This story is brought passionately to life by director Yang Yun-ho (“Fighter in the Wind”), who crafts it into a moving and violent tale of inequality.

"Holiday", A true story

In October 1988, Koreans were inspired by their fourth-place finish at the Olympic Games. Ji Gang-hyeok, who was sentenced to seven years in prison, and some other prisoners escape from a patrol wagon; citizens are shocked by the escape. Armed with a gun, they rob homes and take people hostages. Hostages, however, feel pity for the prisoners, who are humane and well-mannered, unlike the press accounts that portray them as brutal criminals. On the ninth day after their escape, there is a final confrontation as they are found by An Seok, the police officer who has been chasing them tenaciously. They play the Bee Gees' song "Holiday", which is Gang-hyeok's last wish, and he shouts out toward the police and the press surrounding them.

"The wealthy are innocent, while the poor are guilty."

His shout spreads on TV and the press, and Gang-hyeok and the others make their last choice.
